The Burkina Faso 2007 project began in February 2006 during the last evening that the 5H1C team spent on Zanzibar island. We had targetted a few semi-rare African locations mainly located North of the equator. The intend was to get closer to the main ham populations, hence compensating for the lack of propagation mainly impacting the higher bands during our stay in Tanzania. Recent DXpeditions to some of these targets further reduced the list and our choice went to Burkina Faso.

Team building was a little special this year as most core group members had personal constraints preventing them to come. Frank/F4AJQ decided to invite F2JD and F5LMJ from the Clipperton DX Club. In addition, several team members met N6OX and OE8KDK during the Friedrichshafen ham fest in June 2006. From this moment, Bill/N2WB quickly joined the group so the team was complete.

Our operating site is in Ouagadougou the capital city of Burkina Faso. It is located 12° 22' N / 1° 32' W in grid square IK92FI.

From a timing standpoint, our initial wish was to operate at the spring equinoxes, but due to local climate, we decided to operate in January during the main dry season.
